“Our challenge was to give each team a clear view of its own scope without losing the consistency of the overall financial reporting.”

How Aero structures financial reporting by department and aircraft route to manage a multi-dimensional aviation business
Aero is a premium aviation brand positioned between the private jet experience and high-end commercial air travel. The company offers on-demand flights and semi-private travel experiences using Gulfstream and Embraer aircraft, as well as private charter services.
In this business model, financial performance sits at the intersection of multiple operational dimensions: aircraft, departments, crew costs, maintenance, marketing, suppliers, and budget trajectories.
A consolidated P&L provides an essential but insufficient view. The Finance team needs to understand what lies behind every line item: which department owns the expense, which aircraft is concerned, which supplier explains the variance, how actuals compare with budget, and what level of detail can be shared with each user.
With Nocloz, Aero has built more granular and controlled financial reporting, including views by department and aircraft, actual-versus-budget analysis, drill-down capabilities to supplier level, and access rights tailored to different user profiles.
An actionable P&L by department and aircraft
Aero can analyse performance across multiple operational dimensions, including departments and aircraft.
More granular cost analysis
Teams can drill down through the P&L to categories, subcategories, and individual suppliers.
Dashboards tailored to different users
Each user can access only the departments, aircraft, or information relevant to their responsibilities.
Better actual-versus-budget comparison
Dashboards make it possible to track financial performance against budget without rebuilding analyses in Excel.
Stronger governance of sensitive reporting
Access to sensitive data, particularly salary-related information, can be controlled by user profile.
The challenge
In aviation, financial performance can rarely be understood through a single dimension.
An expense may need to be analysed by department, aircraft, supplier, cost category, or reporting period. An operational manager may only need to monitor their own area, while the Finance team must retain a complete, consistent, and controlled view of overall performance.
For Aero, the challenge was therefore to build reporting that accurately reflected this operational reality.
The company needed to analyse crew costs, maintenance expenses, marketing expenditure, costs by aircraft, spending by department, and variances against budget. At the same time, each user’s view had to be adapted to their role: some profiles require broad access, while others should only see their own department or selected aircraft.
Access rights were therefore a central consideration. In shared financial reporting, not all information should be visible to everyone. Salary data, for example, must be hidden from certain profiles, even when users are viewing otherwise similar dashboards.
The objective was not simply to produce more detailed dashboards. It was to build a reporting foundation capable of reconciling three requirements: granularity, clarity, and control.
What Nocloz enabled
Nocloz enables Aero to structure its reporting around the way the business is actually managed.
The platform supports dashboards by department and by aircraft. A user can view a P&L filtered to their own scope, while the Finance team retains a broader and consistent view of overall performance.
This multi-dimensional approach is essential for Aero. It transforms general financial reporting into a more operational view: understanding the costs of a department, analysing expenses related to a specific aircraft, comparing actuals against budget, or drilling down to supplier level to explain a variance.
Nocloz also makes it possible to adapt dashboards to different reporting needs. Some views can display the full P&L, while others show only selected sections, such as costs or expenses. Categories with no transactions can be hidden automatically, making dashboards easier to read for non-finance users.
Access rights also play a central role. Aero can restrict a user to a single department, selected aircraft, or specific types of information. Sensitive data, particularly salary information, can be enabled or disabled depending on the user profile. Finance can therefore distribute reporting more widely while retaining control over the level of information disclosed.
Finally, Nocloz integrates budget data into the same reporting structure. Teams can compare actuals against budget directly within the dashboards, at the level of granularity required for their analysis.
The impact
With Nocloz, Aero now has financial reporting that is more closely aligned with its operating model.
Teams are no longer limited to a consolidated view of the P&L. They can analyse performance across the dimensions that genuinely structure the business: department, aircraft, supplier, cost category, or budget version.
For the Finance team, this means being better equipped to produce reliable and consistent views without multiplying spreadsheets or carrying out ad hoc rework. Reporting rules, access rights, and levels of granularity are structured within the platform rather than managed manually for every request.
For operational managers, it means more direct access to useful and understandable financial information, limited to their own scope. Each manager can better understand the costs relevant to them while relying on data that has been prepared and controlled by Finance.
What this use case demonstrates
The Aero use case shows that financial reporting becomes significantly more useful when it reflects the company’s real operational dimensions.
In an aviation business, performance is not managed solely at group level. It must also be understood by aircraft, department, supplier, cost category, and budget version.
Nocloz transforms this complexity into a clearer, more granular, and better-governed reporting foundation. Finance retains control over the data while giving operational teams the views they need to manage their respective areas.
